Volunteer with FOPFC

The Friends of Pope Farm Conservancy is run solely by volunteers. We are incredibly proud of our dedicated and hard-working volunteers and all that we have accomplished together! But there’s lots to do in 2017, and we need your help! You may volunteer for any amount of time, as your schedule allows.

Please fill out our Online Volunteer Form, and we will forward your interest(s) to the appropriate team leaders. Some of our volunteer opportunities are open to current members only. If you are not a member, Click Here for information about joining the Friends.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

** Parking Volunteers Needed for Sunflower Days (Open to the Public) **
As you know, the parking at Pope Farm Conservancy is limited and can sometimes be an issue during Sunflower Days. The “Friends” have spent a great deal of time designing the parking areas so that people can self-park. However, we need many volunteers to monitor overfill conditions and help redirect traffic to other areas if necessary. Please help us by recruiting your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, etc. FOPFC membership is not required. Shifts are 2 hours long, beginning at 8am and running until 8:30pm during Sunflower days.
Sign Up Today! Go to http://signup.com/go/CSZEBnr and select the parking shift(s) you like. If you prefer not to sign up online, please contact Anna Abbott at anna@popefarmconservancy.org.

Administrative Support (Members Only)
As the Friends group has grown, so has the work load for the administration of the FOPFC. We need one or two members to help the Board with membership and marketing communications, financial information, and the overall administration of the organization. If you can spare a couple hours a week or even a few hours a month, your help would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Mel Pope at mel@popefarmconservancy.org to learn more about this volunteer opportunity.

Volunteer Coordinator (Members Only)
We are looking for two or three volunteers to help us recruit and coordinate volunteers for Sunflower Days 2017. Sunflower Days is enjoyed by thousands every year, and a strong volunteer effort is essential to the success of this event. The time commitment for this volunteer coordinator position is approximately 5-10 hour/week in the weeks leading up to Sunflower Days (mid-late July 2017). As you may recall, there are over 100 volunteers shifts to fill, so we need help calling members and past volunteers to start filling shifts. If you are interested in talking about this position, please contact Mel Pope at mel@popefarmconservancy.org.

Newsletter Contributor (Open to the Public)
If you would like to contribute an article or photo for the monthly newsletter or our annual magazine, please send your article ideas and/or photos to info@popefarmconservancy.org.

Social Media Coordinator (Members Only)
The PR Team is seeking a social media coordinator to manage our Facebook presence. This ongoing volunteer opportunity requires a tech or PR savvy individual willing to schedule and post engaging content, communicate with our followers, and promote our events throughout the year. We especially need help responding to questions & engaging with our followers during Sunflower Days in late July/early August. Ideally, this volunteer is someone who visits the Conservancy regularly and can take photos from time-to-time to post on our Facebook page. Estimated commitment: flexible schedule of 1-2 hours per week, generally but not always working from home.

Heritage Garden Volunteer (Open to the Public)
The Friends of Pope Farm Conservancy are looking for volunteer assistance with the two heritage gardens near the lower parking lot on Old Sauk Road. Volunteers would help weed the gardens, watch for and report problems caused by animal, insect, and other pests, water the gardens, and make occasional weekday or early Saturday morning deliveries of harvested produce to Middleton Outreach Ministry. Tentative start date is Saturday, June 10th and lasting until the gardens are ready to put away in the fall. If interested, please contact Amy Rosebrough at amy.rosebrough@wisconsinhistory.org.

Prairie Seed Collection & Removal of Invasive Species (Open to the Public)
Every summer and fall, the FOPFC Prairie Team hosts a series of Prairie Work Days. Volunteers are needed to help collect prairie seed and/or remove invasive species (weeds). Each session lasts about 2 hours. No previous experience is necessary. We will show you, and demonstrate to you what, where, and how the seed collecting and/or weed removal will be done. Registration is now open for the following work days:

  • September, 2nd (Saturday) 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
  • September, 15th, (Friday) 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
  • October, 7th, (Saturday) 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
  • October, 21st, (Saturday) 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
