Volunteer with FOPFC
The Friends of Pope Farm Conservancy is run solely by volunteers. We are incredibly proud of our dedicated and hard-working volunteers and all that we have accomplished together! But there’s lots to do in 2017, and we need your help! You may volunteer for any amount of time, as your schedule allows.
Please fill out our Online Volunteer Form, and we will forward your interest(s) to the appropriate team leaders. Some of our volunteer opportunities are open to current members only. If you are not a member, Click Here for information about joining the Friends.
Current Volunteer Opportunities
Administrative Support (Members Only)
As the Friends group has grown, so has the work load for the administration of the FOPFC. We need one or two members to help the Board with membership and marketing communications, financial information, and the overall administration of the organization. If you can spare a couple hours a week or even a few hours a month, your help would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Mel Pope at firstname.lastname@example.org
Volunteer Coordinator (Members Only)
We are looking for two or three volunteers to help us recruit and coordinate volunteers for Sunflower Days 2017. Sunflower Days is enjoyed by thousands every year, and a strong volunteer effort is essential to the success of this event. The time commitment for this volunteer coordinator position is approximately 5-10 hour/week in the weeks leading up to Sunflower Days (mid-late July 2017). As you may recall, there are over 100 volunteers shifts to fill, so we need help calling members and past volunteers to start filling shifts. If you are interested in talking about this position, please contact Mel Pope at email@example.com
Newsletter Contributor (Open to the Public)
If you would like to contribute an article or photo for the monthly newsletter or our annual magazine, please send your article ideas and/or photos to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Social Media Coordinator (Members Only)
The PR Team is seeking a social media coordinator to manage our Facebook presence. This ongoing volunteer opportunity requires a tech or PR savvy individual willing to schedule and post engaging content, communicate with our followers, and promote our events throughout the year. We especially need help responding to questions & engaging with our followers during Sunflower Days in late July/early August. Ideally, this volunteer is someone who visits the Conservancy regularly and can take photos from time-to-time to post on our Facebook page. Estimated commitment: flexible schedule of 1-2 hours per week, generally but not always working from home.
Prairie Seed Collection & Removal of Invasive Species (Open to the Public)
Every summer and fall, the FOPFC Prairie Team hosts a series of Prairie Work Days. Volunteers are needed to help collect prairie seed and/or remove invasive species (weeds). Each session lasts about 2 to 2.5 hours. No previous experience is necessary. We will show you, and demonstrate to you what, where, and how seed collecting will be done. More information will be posted here when the session dates/times are determined for 2017.
Other Volunteer Opportunities
We also welcome high school & college students looking to do research projects; master gardeners and nature enthusiasts to assist in the prairies; history buffs to help develop new interactive & self-guided tours; photographers & graphic artists to assist with promotional materials; parking assistants to help at Sunflower Days… and much, much more!
If you are interested in starting (or joining) a volunteer project, please fill out our Online Volunteer Form, and we will forward your interest(s) to the appropriate team leaders. Thank you for your consideration.
